Is social cohesion decisive for energy cooperatives existence? A quantitative analysis

Energy Cooperatives (ECoops), the most prominent example for Communities, are attributed great importance energy transition both through engagement of end-consumers and increase local renewable sources. We conducted an exploratory (spatial) data analysis to study which indicators European Social Progress Index Quality Life co-occure with presence ECoops. Results show that these indexes their sub-components present values significantly better at regions where ECoops located compared all EU regions. While correlation regression coefficients between number per region relatively small, individual indicator “Life-long learning” reaches highest explanatory values. Additionally, Global moran statistics concentration relation in space rather random but a shows clusters emerging throughout continent.
